Tips for a Coordinated Scrapbook
Scrapbook pages that flow seamlessly from page to page are attractive and easy to create. Harmonizing each page, even though they weren't created in exactly the same way, can make the complete scrapbook album look coordinated. Here are some tips to coordinate your scrapbook album:
- Colors
- The most important element to any scrapbook layout is coordinating colors. When the colors work together, it makes the layout uniform. Repeating the same color scheme throughout an entire album can make the album cohesive.
- Journaling Font
- A simple way to coordinate pages in an album is to be consistent with the font or handwriting style being used for the journaling. Instead of handwriting, if you would rather, you can type the text on the computer using the fonts in an office program.
- Repetitive Embellishments
- Repeating an embellishment on your pages will also make the pages flow together nicely. Sometimes, in my pages, I will add flowers and/or butterflies. To keep the look throughout the scrapbook, I will use the same types of flowers from one page to the next.
- Coordinated Titles
- Titles will be different from the journaling. In the same way, though, the titles can provide consistency from layout to layout. When I created the album about our vacation, I repeated the same title design on each page. The font and the font size remained consistent and kept the pages flowing.
- Dating the Layout
- Keep your layouts coordinated by adding the date in the same spot on each page.
- Photo Framing
- When you create a layout, regularly choose how to frame your photographs. Whether you use a big pre-made frame or just mount the photo on a piece of cardstock, use the same framing technique as a way to keep the scrapbook album harmonious.
- Background Paper
- Using the same pattern or color for the background scrapbook paper will harmonize your scrapbook. To draw attention to the photos, try using a clean, white background to make the photos stand out. It sometimes helps bind the scrapbook pages for a better story flow.
- Design Feature
- Repeating page design, embellishments, frames, title banners, journal strips, the layout sketch, page borders, and 'who, what, where, when, and why' ties each page together and makes for an interesting and attractive scrapbook album.
- Style
- Consider the scrapping style you want for your pages. Some examples are: a graphic style, Shabby chic, Simple, Whimsical, and layered. Determine what style you want to use in your album and use that style consistently throughout the entire scrapbook album.
- Coordinated Section Pages
- Even if you can't coordinate every page, consider creating section pages in your album that can be coordinated. The sections could be used for the new seasons or months. For instance, in a vacation scrapbook album you could use the same style pages for each section that introduced a new city, event, or activity on your trip.
Whether you use one or all of the above tips, your scrapbook album will look more coordinated and attractive.
